Food for thought?

This morning working on inspiration from Instagram we were creating still life images of meringues and raspberries. Food photography has the benefit you can usually eat the props.

The idea was use a minimal colour palette and to focus on the main subject, the meringues. Using the Lumix 25mm wide open at f1.7 enabled the isolation of main subject. This was our interpretation of the main image.

Bringing the basket, tongs and spoon into the scene give the impression of dessert being ready to serve. There are two focus points the meringue in the front left of the basket and also the sugar in the spoon. The out of focus Gypsophila in these images works well in these images providing depth and setting the scene.

The glow of the lights in the basket works well to lift the meringues. The scales were originally red and a quick rub down and respray yesterday has worked well. The petals were dried especially for the project.

Overall we were pleased with the images. Only natural light was used and the overall influence of the old masters of still life results in quite dark images.

What do you think, we would love to know?
